1. You usually have to have at least some money to get it going. Any successful business owner will tell you that you need to invest money in your business in order to make money. A home business is no exception. It is recommended to start with around $5.000 for your business opportunity.  This is rounded up number and many have started for much less. 2. You will need a high-speed Internet in most cases. If you don’t already have CABLE, or DSL or other broadband Internet connection, you should have it installed. Many of the home-based businesses are involved with the internet.  So this small investment is a no-brainer.

3. Look for the best opportunity that would be right for you.  You have a unique set of experiences, strengths and weaknesses. Find a legitimate home business that draws on your strengths. If you aren’t a salesperson, for example, stick with a home business that doesn’t require you to make cold calls.

4. Think about surrounding yourself with a support network. Getting your business going can be a challenge.  Look for support in different areas of your life.  A past employer may give you tips.  Join your church and network.  Family and friends could be a good backup for you. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs will tell you that they couldn’t have done it alone.  Don’t be afraid to ASK for advice.

5. Take advantage of available resources. Unless you are a seasoned entrepreneur, you probably aren’t aware of the nuances of running a business. The home business opportunity you choose should have several resources available, so take advantage of them. These resources might include a back office set-up, daily or weekly conference calls, and online tutorials.

7. Set up your work schedule. The wonderful thing about being able to work at home is the flexibility that comes with it. It is easy to get distracted even if you set your own work hours, and you may not want to actually work. It’s helpful; particularly when you’re just starting out, to schedule your work hours as though you were going in to a “regular job.” In doing this, you’ll ensure that you put in the time necessary to make your business succeed. Always be there at the time you specify.

8. Minimizing any distractions is essential.  If you’ve never worked from home before, it’s easy to divert your attention from the task at hand. While you’re working, close the doors of your home office, turn down the ringer on your home phone and smart phone, and vow not to check your personal email. Forget the laundry and the errands, and concentrate on your business. Tell others what you are doing so you won’t be disturbed.  Skip the household chores until your specified day is up.

9. Every business, no matter how small has to keep good records. It may not seem important now, but when tax time comes, you’ll need financial records of all of the expenses and income associated with your home business opportunity. Some people use a spreadsheet, while others use special accounting software.  QUICKBOOKS is the favorite one for small businesses. You have keep track of everything, and keep your receipts.

10. Above all; have fun! Having the knowledge that you’re working toward your financial freedom while being able to work at home in a legitimate home-based business is incredibly rewarding. Keeping your goals on your mind all of the time assures your success.  Read a summary of you goals as soon as you get started each day.   Evaluate where you are in relation to your goals.  It should be great fun to create a great and secure future for yourself and your family.
