Profitable Small Businesses From Years Ago. Can They Be Profitable Today?

Although there are many creative businesses today that were started on the internet,  we may forget about those successful businesses that were profitable in the last century, before the internet ever started.  Maybe even long before that.

What did those creative entrepreneurs do to try to make money without holding down the traditional 9 to 5 job?  (Isn’t that really 8 to 5?)  I am going to explore through my blog posts a number of those businesses.  While I am mentioning them, try to think about the possibility of starting a similar business in your community, and to also think about applying that business as an internet business.  Why not?  If it was successful back then, what’s to stop it from making money today?

(1)  The first business I am going to talk about is nature’s way of getting rid of rats.  Did you know that a rat has a natural enemy?  It’s called the ferret.  People have operated successful businesses in the past, raising and selling ferrets to help people get rid of those pesky vermin.  Some of their customers even bought them as pets.   FIND OUT ABOUT FERRETS

A ferret is a weasel-like carnivore, about 14 inches long, usually white with red eyes and used to hunt rabbits, rats, etc.  Many ship companies use ferrets to rid their ships of rats, and they are also used by warehouses for the same purpose.

To raise and breed ferrets, you only need to start with 20 or 30.  Your herd will increase to several thousand, depending on how much land you have that would be available for this unusual enterprise.

The original article describing this unusual business, explained that a Mr. Gilman in an eastern state had a very profitable business, (partly because there wasn’t much competition).

Can you see yourself doing this?  Maybe there is some vacant land in your area that you could lease for this purpose.

That’s it for this time.  Look out for other posts from me on the unusual and proven to be successful businesses from years ago, or even today.

Best regards,

Jim Young

  3. Long time ago, people were taught that the resume should have a group of point-form duties and responsibilities for every job we’ve ever had – and the greater the volume the better. Not now! Currently, employers plan to only take ten seconds (sometimes not even that) when skimming through your resume. Do not follow the Duties-and-Responsibilities resume approach!

  8. A surprising fact is that four of every five available jobs (including almost all of the most wanted employment), are only hired within the “hidden” career market. This means the key to improving your employment choices, is to uncover the most common reasons the top work are “posted” inside this little-known employment market, and not the pathetic public or internet job market.

  9. This is the right blog for anyone who wants to find out about this topic. You realize so much its almost hard to argue with you (not that I actually would want?HaHa). You definitely put a new spin on a topic thats been written about for years. Great stuff, just great!

  10. There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment?s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

  11. Adhering to the Duties-and-Responsibilities resume template, will make sure that your resume lines a garbage can! Companies are not interested in what you were supposed to do at former occupations. Instead, they must see the unique added value you have made.

  14. You can definitely see your expertise within the work you write. The arena hopes for even more passionate writers such as you who are not afraid to mention how they believe. All the time go after your heart. “History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.” by Napoleon.

  15. The lion’s share of organizations rate the duties and responsibilities resume template, as boring and worthless. Instead, hiring decision-makers need to learn what places you above the other candidates, with real-life instances of accomplishments you’ve made at former organizations.

  19. Resume text like for instance “professional”, are a problem. They are cliche and fail to position you in a positive way. The same is true of a phrase like “reliable”. The proper terms emphasize what you did while at your past employment and how useful you will be to this potential employer.

  26. Can you write a general one-size-fits-all resume, which you can use anytime, anywhere, for any available job? Answer: It is a terrible blunder! The reality: Employers are expected to handle as many as 500 resumes each day! Therefore they toss away every resume which is not definitely targeted to the employment being hired.
