As you well know, the internet has become a massive place with millions of websites. E-commerce is taking increasing chunks of the retail dollar pie every year. Wouldn’t you like to get a piece of the action?

Let’s explore some of the many ways people are making money online right now. As we go through these, think how you could fit yourself into a business of your own.

The obvious first ones are selling on Amazon and Ebay and other such sites like Etsy. The key here is to buy as low as possible, and to sell high. The bigger the dollar retail the better. A niche works better then general merchandise. Seek repeat business with repeat products.

If you already have an existing business, you can choose to expand your market by selling your products and services on an auction site like eBay or Amazon. This opens your business to a wider
range of consumers, both local and international. You could also offer your products on your website, and start advertising your site.

Another popular way to make money online is join affiliate programs. If you already have a website, then you should consider joining an affiliate network program. Depending on the theme and content of your website, you can get affiliate companies to advertise on your site. Different affiliate programs offer different schemes, such as pay per click and pay per lead schemes. Depending on the scheme you choose, affiliate programs can allow you to make money by just renting out your web page space to advertisers, or can give you a portion of the profit your advertisers make when a visitor from your site clicks on their advertisements.

Selling Domain Names and Web Hosting. A domain name is a website’s Internet address. For any website owner, most especially businesses, a good domain name that is easy to remember will increase traffic on their websites, and result in more profits. Selling domain names targets these businesses, and is thus a simple way to make money online. You may also want to host web pages on your domain. Web hosting will require you to maintain your customer’s website and keep them working. The downside to web hosting is that it requires technical expertise to be able to maintain the websites and your server.

Both renting out domain names and web hosting result in reliable income, since these services require regular payments from your clients. Thousands of people are earning extra income or enjoying a full time business in their home by selling e-books. E-books are available everywhere you go online, and cover a variety subjects from cooking to home decor to financial tips. They are easy to purchase thanks to online credit card processing, and they are easy to download and read at one’s own convenience. The beauty of an e-book business is you’ll have no inventory to keep up with, no overhead costs to produce the e-book (unless you invest your own time in writing one), and no shipping hassles. People are always searching for information on the internet to find out something or to help solve a problem. You can provide the information they are looking for.

I’ve only scratched the surface here, and any of the few ways I mentioned above can be expanded in many different ways.

Think about all the ways you could make money on the internet. I’ll bet you haven’t really looked into it, thinking that no one actually makes money on the net. That is actually not true and you should consider giving it a try. Ordinary people like yourself have made tons of money on the Internet and there’s no reason you can’t be one of those people. The truth is that you can really make money on the web. It’s a matter of finding out what you’re interested in and what you think you would do a good job doing. Sometimes, the whole thing is really accidental. You’ll find yourself doing something on the Internet and before you know it, you’ll find that you are really making money and you’re actually making a decent living. You might be one of those people you see on television advertisements, telling everyone about all the money you are making on the Internet. This kind of scenario is more common than you might think.

So think hard about any ideas you may have about making money on the Internet. Try putting your idea into action. You will probably be able to supplement your income, pay for something special
or go on that vacation you’ve always wanted. You may not be the millionaire you thought you’d be but you’ll be able to take that dream of making extra money and make it real. Imagine all of the
things that are possible for you on the Internet. You could sell something, market something or pitch an idea to the millions of people that surf the net. The start up costs can be next to
nothing.
